Equine dental care is an important part of your horses health and wellbeing, there is a distinct link between dental health and equine comfort and performance.
To perform a proper and complete oral exam and treatments, horses need to be sedated which can only be legally provided by a veterinarian. They may also need pain relief, local anaesthetic and antibiotics.
Dr Jessica is passionate about all things equine and their oral health. She has completed additional training in equine dentistry, allowing her to diagnose and treat more complex dental problems.
In a equine oral health examination, Dr Jess will complete a thorough exam, create detailed records and flag any problems requiring attention. She can then perform corrective techniques using power and/or hand tools. In complex cases, we may need to refer to specialist dental surgeons.
Oral health checks should be performed at least once a year, with some horses requiring check ups every 6 months to manage more complex cases. We can tie this in with routine annual health checks, including blood test, vaccinations and faecal egg counts.
